A collaboration to help the city we love - Fort Worth, TX

Who We Are: El Tequileño

In 1959, Jorge Salles Cuervo began producing tequila from field to bottle in the picturesque La Guarreña distillery in the town of Tequila, Mexico, eloquently named “El Tequileño” to pay homage to the town and its spirited culture. El Tequileño quickly gained brand prominence in the state of Jalisco, dedicated to delivering quality and prestigious Tequila to even the most demanding of palates. Even decades after its origin, the tradition of quality, integrity and authenticity continues under the watchful eye of Jorge Salles Cuervo’s eldest son and grandson who are carrying on his legacy.

El Tequileño is not your run-of-the-mill spirit, it’s a piece of cultural history that has been thriving in Mexico for over 60 years. Still family-owned, El Tequileño is coming to the North American market for the first time in its history, and the company has chosen Fort Worth as a cultural hub due to it’s shared values with El Tequileño - family, culture, history, and creativity.

El Tequileño has been regarded as Mexico’s best kept secret for decades, and it is our joy to share that secret with the DFW community.

Who We Are: Matte Black Sound Company

Matte Black Sound Company is an independent record label based in Fort Worth, Texas. Owned and operated by Andre Black and Matthew McNeal, MBSC aims to break the mold of what a traditional label is supposed to look like. From curating playlists to managing artist's releases to plugging out-of-town acts into the north Texas music scene, we want to build a community of connection among artists and listeners alike, all without sacrificing quality or authenticity of the music itself.

The label has produced shows across the country, recorded with some of the finest studio personnel in the world, and has helped countless artists, both locally and abroad, fully realize and facilitate their dreams. It is our honor to parter with the El Tequileño camp in effort to give back and do something great for the community that has our heart.

Why we want to help

Initially, the collaboration began in effort to showcase the legacy and quality of El Tequileño does while showcasing the artistic abilities of musicians from across the country, showing the paralleled care and commitment that go into both efforts. All of the proceeds from this collaboration were originally set to be donated to the city of Fort Worth’s music initiative, Hear Fort Worth, that helps fund the artistic and creative community. However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all proceeds will now benefit the Fort Worth Creative Relief Fund, a collaboration between United Way of Tarrant County and Visit Fort Worth to distribute emergency financial relief to the creative community, greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the same way that our label Matte Black Sound aims to connect the community and further highlight the culture and spirit of this city, El Tequileño sees Fort Worth as a special place for many reasons. From its history to its spirit, it’s creative innovations to its traditions, the city stands for all of the same things that El Tequileño does.

This collaboration is specific to this area for a reason - there is no place on earth quite like Fort Worth.

How we’re helping

The Best Kept Secret Sessions

After finding each other through the power of music, Fort Worth record label Matte Black Sound Company has teamed up with craft tequila company El Tequileño to offer The Best Kept Secret Sessions - a series of recording sessions showcasing artists that you might not have heard of, but will fall in love with soon enough. These sessions are intended to spotlight the music community and their efforts in a new way. New recordings are released each month on Bandcamp, an online music streaming/purchasing platform, and all proceeds go toward Fort Worth’s Creative Industry Relief Fund in effort to help the community’s creatives amidst this unprecedented time of crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Complimentary Stay at Casa Salles Boutique Hotel in the magical town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico

In addition, El Tequileño would like to offer an incentive for people to donate to the Fort Worth Creative Industry Relief Fund, a grant program organized by creative houses Hear Fort Worth and Film Fort Worth alongside United Way of Tarrant County. With every $250 donation to the charity, El Tequileño would like to offer a complimentary night’s stay at their Casa Salles hotel in the heart of Tequila. Donations to the relief fund are tax deductible. Proof of donation must be provided - booking the hotel stay will be subject to availability and mindful of the current state of COVID-19.
